Creative Critical Reflection Draft 4

Integrated Technology-

  • Website- For my magazine I would have a website so everyone can see the most recent updates and will be able to see the magazines if they are subscribed. This is also where all the giveaways will be placed. The website is more for the older audience plus it usually has less glitches than an app.

  • App- My magazine will also have an app so that it is more accessible. It will have all the same information as the website just more condensed. The app will be free to download, and you will receive minimal access. You will only really be able to see the titles and a summary of the main articles and you will be able to see what the giveaways, but you will not be able to enter them.

  • Both- This is were most of my distribution will come from because they will pay for the subscription and receive access to all the magazine through the app and website.  There will be ads on both, I will have pop-up ones and banners.

Production skills that developed-

  • Publisher- I got very good at using publisher throughout the project. I learned how to frame the page to where the information does not look cluttered. I also tested an array of fronts to establish a professional magazine, now knowing what looks good and what does not look good. Using publisher also taught me how the make the picture frame the page well around the text, making sure everything can be seen.

  • Editing photos through Photoshop- I had never used Photoshop before so through this project I learned how to use the different setting of it, like the fillers and how to change the saturation and lighting of a picture. I also learned how to fade a photo which was my favorite part; I faded the picture on the cover at the edges.

  • Photo Shoots- Overall I had never done a photo shoot before, or had been in one. So it was difficult planning out where it would happen, what pose to do, and who I would take photos of. The most difficult part was doing the posing because I was terrible at coming up with poses, but by working with the person I was taking photos of we came up with some different poses, and now I will be more prepared for the next time I have to do a photo shoot. The easiest part was finding a place to do it and who I would take photos of. I dance at a dance company so I took the photos there, and I just got my friends to be the models. But next time I definitely need to find a place with better lighting and use a different camera, so that was something I learned for production.

Engage with audiences- My magazine engages with a dancer audience by showing relevant info that will inform people what is new in dance in the Sarasota County area. I use local studios like Mystical's Dance Company so people can understand the information in the magazine. I also use things like giveaways so the readers will continue reading the magazine. The next way I engage with the audience is by using local shows/performances so that people get the most recent information and the shows are accessible because it is in the Sarasota County area and the audience are people in the area.

How it will be distributed- My magazine will be using an app as the main source of distribution. The app would cost money and this pays for the current magazine that is available, but from there on they have an option of separately buying the magazines of paying for the whole year. So most of the magazines will be available online, but I will be doing some traditional distribution by putting my magazine in the dance studios that let me and info center that are located all around Sarasota. From there people and buy a monthly subscription and it will be mailed to them.

Creative Critical Reflection Draft 1

My blog utilizes traditional convention while also challenging a couple conventions.

Cover- Has the traditional style of the title at the top of the page,  but still making it somewhat unique by having the first letter of each word larger than the rest of the word. I framed the picture with the article titles to make the picture stand out, which most magazines use. I also utilize the idea of having one main photo that takes up the whole page on my cover. One more thing that is on my magazine that all the other magazines I researched had was the website above the title.

Table of Contents- The conventions that I utilized is having the picture on one side with the pages on the other side, to make it easy to read and pleasant to the eye. Like other magazines I did not put all my article titles on my table of contents, because it would make the page look too cluttered, and I just want to point out the main articles that I want to showcase. I challenged the traditional conventions by having the title of my magazine one the table of contents instead of the word table of contents. I got this idea from the Dramatics magazine I researched, but most of them had the words table of contents on them. Another convention I utilized is having a picture that is similar to the cover photo on the table of contents page. It was the same girl in the photo, but she is doing a different extension and I added the teacher helping her with the move.

Article- I have a very traditional article page, having the article title at the top of the page bigger than the rest of the article to emphasis it. One thing I did that was not a traditional convention was tat I have the page number on the top of the page instead of the bottom. I did this because I thought it would look better and unique. I also use the convention of embedding the pictures into the article having the paragraph next to it talking about the picture. In the dance magazines I researched most of them used the convention of putting quotes in the article instead of having them stand out separated from the article, so that what I did. I feel this gives a cleaner look and makes the reader fully read the article.

Represents social groups and issues- My magazine represents the dance community in the Sarasota County area. There are over 40 dance studios in Sarasota County, plus there are many place that show dance performances that are not from studios locally. This magazine helps people keep up with new things happening with dance especially locally, but also nationally.

Table of Contents Revision

For my revisions I wanted to make the article titles bigger to take up more of the black space, and I also make the picture bigger to fit the page better. To show it is the main article I also made the main article title bold to feature it. I changed the font to make it more readable and to correlate with the rest of the writing. I also made the writing under the title bigger because people said they had a hard time reading it.

Cover Revision

For my revision I have changed the font so all the text is in unison. I also made the title of the magazine first letter of each word a few sizes bigger to make the title stand out. For the article titles I make a few of them bigger and spaced them out to give a more organized feel. I added the website for my magazine, because all the magazines I researched had them and I feel it gives a more professional feel.
